A Centennial University
Along its over one-hundred-year history, GZU has changed the school sites for several times and suffered ups and downs. However, GZU is always in line with the idea of “Hard-working & Self-discipline”. With the spirit of being prudent, pragmatic and creative, and with the splendid culture, GZU has provided strong support in national economy and social development by training excellent students.
Comprehensive Subject System
GZU is one of the key "211 Project" universities co-built by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Guizhou Province; in 2012, it was listed as one of the 14 universities with “Project for Improving Comprehensive Abilities of the Midwestern Universities in China”. With a total area of 4354.6 mu (2,903,066.67 square meters) and a collection of over 3.1 million regular books, GZU consists of 33 colleges and 136 undergraduate specialties, covering 11 branches of learning such as philosophy, economics, laws, liberal arts, history, science, engineering, agriculture and administration. At present, GZU has a full-time enrollment of 55121 students. Among the teaching staff of 4003, there are 2714 full-time teachers.
Extensive International Exchange and Cooperation
GZU always places importance on developing international cooperation and exchange. So far, the University has established cooperative relations with more than 140 academic institutions in over 40 countries and regions. The number of enrolled international students in 2014 reaches 400 and they come from over 20 countries.
GZU established Guizhou’s first Confucius Institute in Presbyterian College, U.S. in 2009; since 2008, it has successfully hosted or co-hosted six sessions of the “China-ASEAN Educational Cooperation Week”; it is also a base of international education aid authorized by the Ministry of Education, an institution offering Chinese Government Scholarship Programs, an institution offering Confucius Institute Scholarship, an institution offering Guizhou Province Scholarship for international students, and a base of international cooperation in ASEAN authorized by the Ministry of Science and Technology; GZU also plays an important role in international organizations such as IAUP and AUAP.
Comprehensive Curriculum and Excellent Faculty
GZU has been accepting international students since the 1980s. At present, the College of International Education (CIE) of GZU boasts a team of experienced teachers and a reasonable and effective course-setting system. CIE provides international students with Chinese language courses at four levels (starter-level, basic, intermediate, advanced) comprising comprehensive Chinese, Chinese listening, Chinese speaking, Chinese reading and Chinese writing as well as optional courses like Chinese culture and Chinese ethnic minority culture. Additionally, the College organizes various extracurricular activities to put international students in Chinese culture and Guizhou ethnic minority cultures, with which the students can learn more about the local customs while enjoying the natural and cultural landscapes in Guizhou Province.
